We find all sorts of things on Instagram—ideas, inspiration, the occasional deep dive into a stranger’s home makeover. And sometimes, if the algorithm is feeling particularly generous, we find the perfect creative match.
That’s exactly how this story begins. A homeowner scrolling, saving, and quietly falling for the Lisa Sherry Interieurs aesthetic. Post by post, click by click, admiration turned into a long-distance design crush. And like all good love stories, it had a happy ending: a home makeover for her and her family’s getaway second home.
ABOUT MY CLIENTS
My clients are a wonderfully busy Boston-based family of seven—two parents, three teenage daughters, and a pair of devoted canines. Somewhere between school drop-offs, work meetings, and dressage competitions (more on that in a moment), they decided it was time to reimagine their second home. The only hiccup? Their design crush–Lisa Sherry Interieurs is based in Charlotte–while they call Wellington, Florida, home away from home.
No matter. My bag is always packed. Design jobs take me from coast to coast, and often beyond. Ease of travel and the magic of modern electronic communications made the distance disappear.
A WORD ABOUT WELLINGTON
Now, about Wellington. If you know, you know: it’s synonymous with equestrian culture. The air hums with the energy of showjumping, polo, and dressage, the latter being my clients’ particular passion. They don’t just admire the sport—they compete.
And yet, from the start, we agreed on the design direction: no stallion statuary, no leather overload, no “ye olde tack room” aesthetic. Their love for the sporting life is deep, but their design vision? More nuanced. Instead, we leaned into what truly speaks to them—the effortless connection between indoors and out, the beauty of natural materials, and the quiet luxury of a home designed for gracious entertaining.
THE MAGIC OF WHOLE-HOME PROJECTS
As a designer, I love whole-home transformations—the kind of project where every space, every detail, is part of a greater whole. The kitchen remains untouched for now (because let’s be honest, a great design story always leaves room for a sequel). But beyond that? We reimagined it all—living and dining spaces, bedrooms, baths, powder rooms, the welcoming foyer, and, of course, the quintessential Florida lanai.
DESIGNING DETAILS
I designed this home for living—really living. It’s elegant but never precious, sophisticated yet completely at ease. Texture plays a starring role, layering warmth and depth into every room. Soft, inviting upholstery, rich natural materials, and today’s remarkable performance fabrics ensure that beauty and practicality are never at odds. A gaggle of teenage girls, pups, meetings, horses neighing at the stables – this is a home for a busy family.
