INSIDE THE DESIGN: A LISA SHERRY FAMILY-FRIENDLY HOME MAKEOVER.

THINK KIDS MEAN COMPROMISING ON STYLE? THINK AGAIN! VISIT LISA'S LATEST HOME TOUR.

NOVEMBER 20, 2024 | CHARLOTTE, NC

Are you a naysayer? Some people think beautiful interior design and kids don’t go together. Sadly, they embrace bunker decorating style and wait for the wee ones to grow up – and sometimes out – before embracing the power of design. My mission in life and design is to help clients LIVE BEAUTIFUL at every stage and every age, and in the here and now.

That’s why Lisa Sherry Interieurs designs embrace and elevate family-friendly living. Skeptical? Today’s home makeover tour is for you.

My client and her partner are vivacious, high-energy professionals. The two share a home and a blended family with three bright and active pre-teen girls, plus a large (and engaged) extended family. This family sought me out to create a beautiful hang-out home for all. Here’s a peek inside the makeover – and out…

INCOMING

My client and her partner embrace traditional values, but traditional architecture – well, not so much. My team and I focused on modernizing a home with traditional bones through floor planning, furniture, flooring, and accents, plus paint, and wallpaper selections. This Lisa Sherry Interieurs foyer is a great example. I paired a faux-shagreen waterfall console table with a modern gesso lamp and planter. Above, modern abstract art. Below, beautiful, organic catch-all baskets – perfect for organizing the comings and goings of a gaggle of girls. A textured area rug brings the family-friendly space together.

GATHERINGS

This kid-friendly family home is a go-to for special events. At these times, this statement dining room, adjacent to the foyer, takes center stage. Modern, abstract wallpaper in hues of blue elevates the space. Sophisticated and elegant, the room glows, but it’s  not precious. The castered chairs are fully upholstered in a boucle performance fabric. Marble-top pedestal table is elemental and enduring.

UNCOMMON COMMON AREAS

Like so many of us, my clients spend a good bit of their day tethered to electronics. They do not wish the same for their impressionable children and sought to create family-friendly common areas where everyone can unplug, gather, and engage directly – not digitally. The family room, adjacent kitchen, and eat-in kitchen are the perfect milieu.

MOM & DAD GETAWAY

I always seek balance in my interior design projects. While this family-friendly home is an invitation to gather, personal private space is also essential. My clients love this grand primary suite. It’s just off the family room, but a world apart. The vaulted ceiling elevates the space. Lisa Sherry Interiuers furniture selections bring it beautifully down to earth. The organic taupe-and-cream area rug was an early and fundamental design decision – literally grounding! I flanked the upholstered bed with modern lacquered nightstands and added a metal-frame upholstered bench at the foot of the bed, the perfect punctuation point.

DIVE IN

Young children grow fast. My clients fully embraced the idea of “live beautiful” now – not some distant day down the road. Further, with three girls approaching teenage years, the couple wanted their family home to be a coveted destination – a hang-out house – for family and friends. Outdoor living – including a pool, pool house, full bath and outdoor kitchen are an essential part of this family-fun Lisa Sherry Interieurs design project.

Personally, I am a seeker of sunshine. I also love to blur the lines between indoors and out. Designing this space was pure joy – all of the family-friendly grace, charm and functionality of the interior gets EXTERIOR expression here.

With the holidays approaching, it’s so rewarding to imagine the abundant happiness and joy in this family home in the days to come. And, even though this interior design project is wrapping up, I feel like part of the extended family – always welcome. What a gift! Amazingly, it gets better. This client’s identical twin sister has asked Lisa Sherry Interieurs to design her Charlotte home. Stay tuned for more. I promise it too will be beautiful, family friendly and not at all identical to her identical sister’s space!
